Lands Minister Engages Hong Kong Gold Exchange to Advance Responsible Mining Investment

Ghana's Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has engaged senior executives of the Hong Kong Gold Exchange and other industry leaders during a working visit aimed at strengthening international partnerships and positioning Ghana as a preferred destination for responsible mining investment.
According to an update shared by the Minister, the discussions focused on forging strategic collaborations that will deepen Ghana's participation in the global minerals value chain while promoting sustainable and responsible mining practices. He emphasized that every international engagement presents an opportunity to create lasting economic benefits for Ghanaians through investment, innovation, and value addition.
The Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to transforming Ghana from a leading gold producer into a regional hub for responsible mineral development. He noted that the partnerships being pursued are expected to attract quality investment, create employment opportunities, facilitate technology transfer, and support sustainable growth across the mining sector.
Expressing appreciation to his hosts for their warm reception, Mr. Buah said he was optimistic that the discussions would translate into meaningful partnerships capable of delivering tangible benefits to the country. He reiterated Ghana's ambition to become Africa's preferred destination for responsible mining investment by fostering transparency, sustainable resource management, and investor confidence.
The engagement with the Hong Kong Gold Exchange forms part of the Minister's broader international outreach since assuming office in February 2025. Recent initiatives include leading Ghana's delegation to the 2026 Mining Indaba in South Africa and advancing a strategic partnership with the World Gold Council to strengthen formalization and improve standards within Ghana's artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
For Lands and Mines Watch Ghana (LMWG), the Minister's engagement with globally recognized industry institutions represents a positive step toward expanding Ghana's network of credible international partners and enhancing the country's reputation as a responsible and competitive mining destination. LMWG believes such engagements should ultimately translate into measurable benefits for Ghanaians through increased local participation, technology transfer, value addition, and sustainable employment.
As these discussions progress, LMWG will continue to monitor developments and advocate for transparency, accountability, and policies that ensure the benefits of Ghana's mineral wealth are shared equitably among its citizens and mining communities.
